3 - Bread

Jesus is The Bread of Life

What is it about Jesus that makes Him the Bread of Life?
John 6:35
Jesus provides answers for all our problems.

New Creation

So, what is it about Jesus that means He can solve all our problems?
II Corinthians 5:17
When we come to Him, He provides us a renewed spirit. We are new creatures.
How am I a new creation?
Galatians 2:30
Christ has come into my life to give me a totally new life.
Is Jesus just going to do all this - turn my life around and cause me to live a whole new life?
Romans 12:1-2
No. I must make a conscious decision to sacrifice my own desires to Him. He will help me but only if I make a definite decision to follow Him and leave my own life behind.

Engaging with the Bread of Life

Jesus is the bread of life. How do we respond to Jesus?

John 8:12
We need to follow Him.

We cannot see Jesus so we cannot follow Him the way His disciples did in the first century. We can follow Him through His Word, the Bible. The rest of this study shows ways we can engage with Jesus through His Word.

Preaching

The easiest way to engage with the Word is to hear it. How can we hear it?
Romans 10:17
We hear it via the preaching of faithful preachers who preach God's Word and not just their own ideas.

Reading

The most obvious way to encounter The Word is to read it. What happens if we read it?
Rev 1:3
I read it every day. God speaks to me through what I read.

Study

Is reading enough?
Acts 17:11
It is important to study God's Word as well as reading it. I, personally, believe all small groups should be Bible Study groups, not connect groups or some other title that promotes fun and games all the time rather than a focus on God's Word.

Memory

Is study enough?
Psalm 119:9,11
I have learned a bunch of key verses. These verses are with me 24/7.

Meditation

OK, so I have heard it preached, read it, studied it and memorised bits of it. What else?
Philippians 4:8 (ESV)
It is no good if I do all that and just forget it. It must become a part of me. I must think about what I have heard, read, studied and memorised. I must act on it. It must become a part of my life.
