7 - Vision, Mission and Commission

Vision

Each person will be given a vision of what part God wants him or her to play in His kingdom. In this sense, a vision is not something we see but refers to the overall calling on our life. Most people will find a life verse in the Bible that supports their vision. My life verse given in 1970 was Philippians 1:21. In the 2000's I was also given Psalm 27:4

Philippians 1:21 (ESV)
Psalm 27:4 (ESV)
Is there any verse that stands out as special to you personally?

Philippians 1:21, Psalm 27:4
What do you feel God is calling you to do?
If you have not felt any calling yet, what things seem most important to you and what things do you enjoy most?
I feel called to be a prophet, teacher and intercessor.

Mission

A vision statement is a high level statement about what my life goal is, a mission statement is about the details. In God's kingdom, our mission may be updated at any time. Our mission will be a method to implement our vision. Everyone will have their own mission or role but all these missions will work together to achieve God's purposes.

How do I determine my mission?
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (ESV)

Each person has been given their own giftings. They have their own opportunities to serve in the various activities that are already taking place or need to take place.

What giftings do you have? Some people know what they are gifted in, others do not. Giftings usually fit with our desires. If you do not know what you are gifted in, think about the things you would most like to do for God and His world and then work out what you can actually do.
What areas of service would you best fit into?
What existing activities would suit you best? Is there some activity that you feel is required, that you can perform but is not yet taking place?

The Great Commission

Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

This is the great commission. God wants everyone to hear the Gospel message. Some people are evangelists and will share the Gospel with many people. Most of us are not evangelists but we do know some people who will never hear the Gospel from anyone else. It is our job to know the Gospel message and be ready to share it.

1 Peter 3:15 (ESV)
Do you have a passion for evangelism? Can you share the gospel with groups of people?

If you do not have a passion for evangelism, do you know how to respond with the gospel to someone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you?

Acts 1:8 (ESV)
In Acts 1:8 it says 'all Judea and Samaria'. If it did not list Samaria, it is possible the early disciples would have gone to all the world except Samaria. This is a place that they traditionally avoided. Is there someplace you would naturally refuse to go?
