About This Site

History

I, John, began this site in June 2012, but very little was done in 2012. 6 months later, I was unemployed and had plenty of time to work on the site. I have created many web sites in the past, but these were all on corporate intranets and the information was corporate information, not originated by me.

This has been a fascinating experience. I am now having to create web pages from scratch.

After various jobs as System, Database and Network administrators, I worked for a time in a Christian bookshop. This introduced me to a wide range of people from all forms of Christian expression. I saw there were true followers of Jesus in every expression. I also saw there were many who were believers but just spectators, not truly engaging and missing all the joy and benefits of following Jesus. I also ran into those who had very definite opinions on certain subjects and believed they were right and everyone else was wrong. The boss did not want typical cute young sales assistants. He wanted men and women mature in Jesus who could not only sell books, but could also make informed recommendations without pushing their own personal perspective. This shop would even help people coming in with questions about life with Jesus in general. The official position of the chain we were part of was that sales staff should be cute dolly birds who were there to sell books and nothing else! Without much warning, our shop was closed and we all lost our jobs. No, it wasn't because we weren't doing things the way headquarters wanted. The entire chain closed down. This shop serviced towns as far as 200km (120 miles) away. A great light went out in this community. This has resulted in many people working on things to replace that light. This site is my small contribution. Since beginning this site, a new Christian bookshop has opened. It is a local shop, not part of any chain. The owner's husband is a local pastor.

How This Site Started

When I started this web site, I was still working in the Christian bookshop, but now that the shop is gone, I have time to do things. Due to my age, I have not found another job so I am now officially retired.

Version 1 of this web site was completed by the end of 2012. It is now 2020 and this is version 4.

Original Vision for This Site

Proverbs 2:1-5 (ESV)
1 My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 making your ear attentive to wisdom
    and inclining your heart to understanding;
3 yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
4 if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.

Here, Solomon is talking to his son, explaining what is required to draw near to God. Every one needs a father, a mentor, to teach them the basics and help them get to the point where they can learn for themselves. If you continue reading Proverbs 2, you will see the emphasis moves from learning from Solomon to learning directly from God.

Job 28:20-21,28 (ESV)
20 From where, then, does wisdom come?
And where is the place of understanding?
21 It is hidden from the eyes of all living
and concealed from the birds of the air.
28 And he said to man,
'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
and to turn away from evil is understanding.'

In Job 28, Job is talking about miners who go about under the ground where no one else sees, searching for precious stones and metals. If you read the whole chapter you will see that God is the one who knows where wisdom has been hidden. If we come to Him, we will find it.

Plans for this site

I originally wanted this site to be a resource to help people to understand the principles of discipleship and multiplication. I had a team of people with a common vision. Unfortunately, our vision did not extend much beyond our own local church. We had some success discipling people already in our church but that was all.

As we are now coming into a time of awakening, the focus of this site has moved from being a resource for those in existing churches to being a resource for those who will not be able to fit into existing churches due to the volume of people coming to Jesus.

This aim of this web site is to introduce you to God's Word, the Bible and to bring you into a mature relationship with Jesus where you can feed yourself and others. No source of information, including this web site, should have precedence over God's Word or a living relationship with Jesus. This web site should be seen as a stepping stone only.

This site will be updated as time permits. If you have any comments or questions or feel that something on this site is not in line with God's Word, please feel free to use the contact form.
